So, maybe you have heard and Pilates from a friend, read an article about it, been told that it would be beneficial to you, but you are on the fence about it, or perhaps you just haven’t given it much thought.

Indeed, why should you care about Pilates?

If you have chronic back pain, sciatica, or your neck is often stiff, your hips hurt, your balance is not what you’d like it to be, you are recovering from an injury, are struggling with a neuromuscular illness such as MS, or fibromyalgia, then you would want to give Pilates a chance.

If you struggle with anxiety, depression, negative emotions, stress, it will truly be worth your time to look into Pilates. As Joseph Pilates wrote,” A body free from nervous tension and fatigue is the ideal shelter provided by nature for housing a well-balanced mind, fully capable of successfully meeting all the complex problems of modern living.”

If you are generally healthy and mostly pain-free but you want to improve athletic performance (professional or leisure), then Pilates is something you may want to look into for skill-specific and cross-training.

Or perhaps you want to age gracefully with healthy spine, better posture, a less compromised range of motion, and better balance so that you can enjoy all those things you had saved for and planned on doing one day? Pilates is great for that.

But if you are not thinking about aging at all, and want to have leaner muscles, toned arms and legs, strong abs, and increased self-confidence now? Pilate will help with all these goals!

It was Joseph Pilates’ belief that, “In 10 sessions, you feel better, 20 sessions you look better, 30 sessions you have a completely new body.” But rest assured that you will experience much more than a new body. How so? Well, Pilates is a mindful practice that approaches the body, mind, and spirit holistically. In the words of Ellen Langer, a pioneer researcher of mindfulness, mindfulness is less about spirituality and more about concentration: the ability to quiet your mind, focus your attention on the present, and dismiss any distractions that come your way.” So, yes, Pilates will make you less stressed and happier.
